Day 191 of my challenge to be more Brazilian, Chicago edition, I was able to admire the works of a Brazilian artist.
Denise Milan, a multidisciplinary artist, ecological and art education activist, and Sao Paulo native, currently has an exhibit at the Chicago Cultural Center.
“Mist of the Earth” renders the Brazilian rainforest in a series of textured, multilayered photo-collages that breeds surreal imagery, yet draws you into the vibrant colors, exotic wildlife and the chaos that is the rainforest.
If you happen to be in Chicago before January 6 of next year, I recommend you stop by to see her work as well as the other exhibits at the center. Entrance to the Chicago Cultural Center, located at East Washington Street and Michigan Avenue, is free.
The landmark building, originally Chicago’s first central public library, is a work of art in itself.
