Day 131: Mandiopã

When I saw this at the grocery store, I just couldn’t resist what I’m guessing is a very Brazilian snack. The marketing on the box was also quite attractive – “Fácil de gazer… gostoso de comer!” “Easy to make… fun to eat!”

The snack is made of mandioca  starch and inside the box was a bag of what looked like small chips.

Here are the directions:

Put oil in skillet and let it get hot.
Pour Mandiopã, it begins to grow.
Quickly remove with a slotted spoon.
Drain on paper towels.
Add salt to taste. You are ready to enjoy.

Grow? Interesting…

So I believe this is what the outcome is supposed to look like:

Mine mostly looked like this because I didn’t get the pieces out of the oil quick enough:

But it was still pretty tasty.
