Brazilian Challenge Day 107: Coca Cola Light Plus

Yesterday, Day 107, I enjoyed a Coca Cola Light Plus. Never heard of it? Well it is basically a Diet Coke… with vitamins! Yes vitamins! I guess the Coca Cola people got tired of people like Dr. Oz knocking their biz and making people feel bad about drinking soda. So they came out with a vitamin fortified cola product. Still doesn’t ring a bell?

If you are in the U.S. it won’t. The FDA put the kibosh on it. Something about claiming something is nutritious when it really is just a can of soda with some extra chemicals.

This product is available in the U.K. and, of course, readily available in the land of dangerous chocolate eggs (See Holy Egg Mania). I’m actually not 100% certain that you can’t get this product in the U.S (under the name Diet Coke Plus), I never saw it. Maybe you can purchase online from someone who stocked up before they pulled it off the shelves. If anyone knows, I’d love to hear about it.

Thats extremely surprising that the US stopped that, I am actually shocked. Considering they put that pink slime sh*t in all of our meat………..even though they blocked this one, they are no angels whatsoever.

Now you are officially Brazilian 🙂

Leaving aside the crazy notion of getting your daily vitamins from a soda can, what really annoys me in that picture is the sneaky price hike. In this case, it’s actually good that you’re drinking 40ml less Coke but I bet you there wasn’t a 12% reduction in the price to go along with it.

Hmmm, they don’t have that in Londrina yet, but it will be nice to try! Something else that you could try for your born again Brazilian activities is eating Pamonha, but don’t buy it at a supermarket, be sure to go to a Pamonharia- it’s amazing!

    • Oh yes. Great one. I’ll definitely add it to the list. I’ve yet to try it. I wonder is we have any Pamonarias in Sao Paulo. I’ll check it out.

Here’s a link to one: http://www.pamonhariamilhoverde.com.br/ but I don’t know how far you live from there. Pamonha is basicaly a paste made with the corn itself and sweetened with sugar, sometimes it comes with cheese in the middle, but usually only if you ask. I personally, prefer it without the cheese and it goes amazingly well with a Brazilian coffee in the middle of the afternoon:]

Wait for your next trip out of the city. You’re bound to stumble upon a “Rei da Pamonha” restaurant at a roadside stop. Or go to a less posh neighborhood and you might find a guy driving a 30 year old Brasilia very slowly as he announces, “Pamonha, pamonha, pamonha! Pamonha de Piracicaba! Venham experimentar estas delicias”. 🙂

Never seen it in Canada. Sounds a bit like Vitamin Water though – but vitamins in Coke sounds even worse for you than Vitamin Water.

    • Yes, because at least you are starting off with something good – water. Here you are starting off with something not so good and trying to make it good with more chemicals. Just doesn’t seem right…

What do you think?
