Brazilian Challenge Day 62: Beach Weekend

It is rather common for paulistanos to get in their car on a Friday and head off for the weekend, usually to the beach if it is summer. We are doing this for the first time this weekend.

Now that the peak season is over, marked by the end of Carnaval, prices of pousadas have gone down. So we thought we would take advantage of the “lower” season plus the hot weather and head to the beach.

Sao Paulo actually has beaches. If you’ve ever visited Sao Paulo, you might initially think this is impossible, because all you see is dry land. But drive an hour from the city and you hit the coast line.

So far, I’ve only been to one Sao Paulo beach, Juquehy, and that’s where we are headed tonight. Yes, we are getting in our car this evening, braving the Sao Paulo traffic to get out of the sweltering city, along with what is probably thousands of other Brazilians.

I’ll let you know how THAT goes.

Oh fun, we go just about every other weekend if we can. Our favorite beach is Camburi, one more past Juquehy. Its a little more quiet, only one or two bars/restaurants on the beach and mostly families. Just remember to ALWAYS leave before 2pm on Sunday or after 8pm, thats our rule of thumb and we only get traffic screwed if we deviate off that plan. In other news, my good friend here had her hair done next to Val (tranny) yesterday… and told her how all her american friends watch Mulheres Ricas and she got so excited and then asked her (all in Portuguese) if she was from New York. haha but they had a nice little chat!

What do you think?
